BLU-RAY TUESDAY: 'Evil Dead' Reboot Scares Up Various Exclusives, '42' Hits Home Run on Blu-Ray

Jackie Robinson, Sylvester Stallone and the Evil Dead are as remotely different from one another as possible, but all three go head-to-head on home media as 42: The Jackie Robinson Story, Bullet to the Head and Evil Dead street this week on Blu-Ray.

42 was released in theaters this past April just in time for the start of the 2013 Major League Baseball season and now finds itself on Blu-Ray precisely for the league's All-Star game. 42 is Jackie Robinson's biography onscreen detailing his initial year playing for the Brooklyn Dodgers as the first player to break the color barrier in the sport in 1947.

42 is released as a two-disc Blu-Ray, DVD, UltraViolet combo pack from Warner Bros. Target is releasing a 42 exclusive with bonus content and alternate packaging.

Also on Blu-Ray, Sylvester Stallone stars in Bullet to the Head with Jason Mamoa and Sung Kang. Hitman Jimmy Bobo (Stallone) teams up with a D.C. detective (Kang) to bring down a man (Mamoa), who killed his partner. Bullet to the Head is released as a Blu-Ray, DVD, Digital Copy, UltraViolet combo pack from Warner Bros.

Horror reboot Evil Dead from Sony Pictures is released in several variations with a Blu-Ray, UltraViolet combo pack being the standard edition. Target released a steelbook version of Evil Dead while Best Buy exclusive includes an additional disc. Evil Dead follows the classic Sam Raimi trilogy creating demonic havoc at a cabin in the woods once more.

  1. 42 sounds like the type of movie for any baseball fanatic. Bullet could possibly hurt Sly's career. Evil Dead reboot. Have not yet seen the original movie. Shame on me.

  2. 42 was pretty good, but it focused more on Jackie Robinson breaking the color barrier in baseball than the actual games, which offered up a more compelling story. Harrison Ford could have an outside chance at a Best Supporting Actor nomination next year.
