BLU-RAY TUESDAY: 'Oblivion' Blasts Home on Blu-ray with Metalpak and Other Retail Exclusives
Tom Cruise just keeps missing the elusive century mark with his three latest outings (his most recent $100 million hit being 2011's Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol), however audiences have the opportunity to check out his dystopian futuristic film Oblivion this week on Blu-ray. Also set to release this week are The Place Beyond the Pines, Mud, The Borgias: The Complete Third Season and several Disney classics.
In Oblivion, Jack Harper (Cruise) is the one of the few drone repairman stationed on 2077 Earth alongside his communications partner and romantic interest, Victoria (Andrea Riseborough). However after a routine checkup turns south, Harper begins to realize that all that he's known may not exactly be the truth.
Oblivion is released on Blu-ray by Universal Studios in various formats and exclusives with the standard being a Blu-ray, DVD, Digital Copy, UltraViolet combo pack. Walmart's version is housed in metalpak packaging, while Target offers an exclusive packaged with an illustration booklet and alternative artwork. The Best Buy exclusive includes an additional disc of bonus content.
For the independent crowd, crime thriller The Place Beyond the Pines and Mud make their way to Blu-ray. The Place Beyond the Pines directed by Derek Cianfrance (Blue Valentine) stars Ryan Gosling as a traveling daredevil in upstate New York on a collision course with an ambitious cop (Bradley Cooper) and his crooked department. Pines is released as a Blu-ray, DVD, Digital Copy UltraViolet combo pack from Universal Studios.
Also an indie favorite, Mud stars Matthew McConaughey as a charismatic wanted man who befriends two local boys, who find his hideout on an isolated Mississippi island. Mud is distributed by Lionsgate Films as a Blu-ray, Digital Copy, UltraViolet combo pack.
Paramount Pictures releases the complete third and final season of Showtime's The Borgias. The historical drama stars Jeremy Irons as Pope Alexander VI and family's grip over the 15th century papacy. All ten episodes of third season are featured in a three-disc set.
Disney is re-releasing several of their classics for the first time on Blu-ray including Robin Hood for its 40th anniversary, The Sword in the Stone for its 50th anniversary and Oliver and Company.

What a rockin' collection except for "The Borgias". Not much into that type of show.
ReplyDeleteI haven't watched The Borgias, but if it's like The Tudors or Rome, I may give it a shot down the line.
