BLU-RAY TUESDAY: 'Epic' Goes on Pint-Sized Blu-ray Adventure, 'Scary Movie V' Rehashes 'Paranormal' Parody




















Caught in a summer where schooled monsters and an army of Minions laid claim to the animated box office, Blue Sky Entertainment's Epic takes the adventure home to Blu-ray. Epic leads this week's new releases which also include: Scary Movie V, Amour, Scooby Doo: Stage Fright, Star Trek: Enterprise - The Complete Second Season and Boardwalk Empire: The Complete Third Season.

Based on William Joyce's children's book, The Leaf Men and the Brave Good Bugs, Epic follows a teenage girl (Amanda Seyfried) magically transported to the unseen world of little people living in her own backyard. Together with the help of Leafmen soldiers, a slug and a snail, she must protect a pod from evil forces in the forest. Epic is distributed on Blu-ray by 20th Century Fox in various formats including the standard Blu-ray, DVD, UltraViolet combo pack as well as a 3D edition. However, Target is releasing an exclusive 24-page Digibook.   


For fans of the Scary Movie franchise, the latest installment, Scary Movie V makes its way to Blu-ray as a Blu-ray, DVD, UltraViolet combo pack from Starz / Anchor Bay. Like the previous four films of the series, Scary Movie V parodies more recent horror films which include Paranormal Activity and Mama. Scary Movie V stars Lindsay Lohan and Charlie Sheen and is directed by Malcolm D. Lee. 

Acclaimed French film, Amour is also released this week to Blu-ray by Sony Pictures. The 2012 Best Picture nominee and winner of Best Foreign Language Film directed by Michael Haneke (The White Ribbon) focuses on a retired music teacher (Jean-Louis Trintignant) dealing with his wife's (Emmanuelle Riva) recent stroke. Amour is released as a single Blu-ray disc with a French language track and English subtitles.

In Scooby Doo: Stage Fright, detective duo Scooby and Shaggy are performing at a talent competition. However strange occurrences begin to happen at the venue, which lead to another mystery that needs to be solved by the gang. The direct-to-video full-length feature is packaged as a Blu-ray, DVD, UltraViolet combo pack from Warner Bros.

Star Trek: Enterprise - The Complete Second Season and Boardwalk Empire: The Complete Third Season round out this week's new releases. Enterprise follows the 2002-03 season, kicking things off with the conclusion to Season 1's Shockwave cliffhanger as well as the return of the Borg later on. Enterprise arrives from Paramount Pictures as a 6-disc set.

The third season of HBO's mob series, Boardwalk Empire starring Steve Buscemi and Michael Shannon also is released on Blu-ray this Tuesday in a 7-disc set.
